5-Pillar AI Readiness Assessment

The AI Readiness Assessment your board presentation won't show you.

In the readiness assessments I have run, organisations consistently overestimate their AI readiness. This free diagnostic reveals what your board presentation won't — your actual weakest link across strategy, data, talent, operations, and governance.

Opinion framework. Not a compliance assessment under the EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF 1.0, or ISO/IEC 42001:2023.

How the assessment works

The AI Readiness Canvas evaluates your organisation across five pillars that determine whether AI initiatives succeed or fail: Strategic Alignment, Data Infrastructure, Talent & Culture, Operational Processes, and Ethics & Governance.

Unlike most AI readiness frameworks that average scores across dimensions, the Canvas uses a weakest-pillar rule: your overall readiness equals your lowest pillar score. An organisation scoring 5-5-5-5-2 is a Level 2 organisation — because a single weak pillar constrains everything else.

This scoring rubric has been validated across 12+ organisations spanning healthcare, financial services, government, technology, and manufacturing. Results map to established frameworks including the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, the OECD AI Principles, and AskAjay's proprietary PRIME and MVG frameworks.

Grounded, not certified. The Canvas uses published regulations and standards — including the EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, UAE PDPL, and ISO/IEC 42001 — as reference scaffolding. The scoring, interpretation, and recommendations are mine. The Canvas is a directional diagnostic, not a compliance audit or legal opinion. Full disclaimers →

The five pillars

Strategic Alignment

Is AI connected to your business strategy — or is it a technology initiative looking for a problem?

Data Infrastructure

Can your data teams access, trust, and use the data AI needs — without filing tickets with three departments?

Talent & Culture

Do you have the right people, and does your culture support experimentation and learning from AI failures?

Operational Processes

Are your workflows, change management, and incident response designed for human-AI collaboration?

Ethics & Governance

Do you have governance with real authority — or policies that exist on paper but not in practice?

Frequently asked questions

How long does the assessment take?

8–10 minutes. 15 questions, each designed to reveal genuine organisational readiness rather than confirm optimistic self-belief.

What is the weakest-pillar rule?

Your overall AI readiness score equals your lowest pillar score, not the average. This reflects reality: a chain breaks at its weakest link. An organisation with excellent data infrastructure but no governance is not "mostly ready" — it is at risk.

Who should take this assessment?

C-suite executives, VPs, directors, and AI/digital transformation leaders. The questions are designed for people who make or influence AI investment decisions.

What do I get for free?

Your overall readiness score, four of five pillar breakdowns with maturity levels, and initial recommendations for each pillar. The fifth pillar (Ethics & Governance) and detailed strategy report require the Standard tier.

What is in the $197 Standard Report?

A 15-page AI strategy report including per-question analysis, cross-pillar dependency mapping, regulatory exposure assessment, a 90-day sprint plan with weekly actions, and a NIST AI RMF crosswalk. Generated by AI, calibrated against practitioner benchmarks.

Is my data private?

Yes. We do not share your assessment results or contact information. Your data is stored securely and used only to generate your report. See our governance page for details on how we manage our own AI.
